Tareekh e Tabri Urdu Complete 7 Volumes is the most important and authentic history book of the Islamic world. The author of this history book is the famous religious scholar, Qur’an commentator, and historian of Islam, Imam Ibn Jarir al-Tabari. This beautiful book consists of several volumes.
The original book is in the Arabic language, but currently, in Pakistan and India, its translations are available in Urdu, Hindi, Sindhi, and English languages. Imam Ibn Jarir Tabari wrote this book according to the Sunni school of thought. There are three parts to this book. The details of which are as follows.
- The first part contains the general history of Islam, which includes important events, conquests, wars, and administrations from the birth of the Holy Prophet, the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr, the caliphate of Hazrat Umar Farooq, the caliphate of Hazrat Usman, and the caliphate of Hazrat Ali. Reforms are highlighted.
Tareekh e Tabri Urdu Complete 7 Volumes 1:
- The second part of the book deals with the rule of Banu Umayyad, whose founder was Amir Muawiya. In this section, the important events of the reign of different rulers of Banu Umayyah are described.
Especially in this section, the important events of the period of Yazid bin Muawiya, including the occurrence of the tragedy of Karbala, and the incident of Hara, are also described. Apart from this, the events of Yazid bin Muawiya’s army against the people of Medina have been described in detail.
- The third part of the book is called the reign of the Abbasids. This reign began with Abu al-Abbas, the ruler of Banu Abbas. The Abbasid era lasted from 750 AD to 1258 AD. This period is called the golden age of Islamic history. After the invasion of Baghdad by the Mongols, the Abbasid rule came to an end.
Mutasim Billah was the last of the Abbasid rulers. In this part of the book, Ibn Jarir specifically mentions the atrocities inflicted on the people of Baghdad by Halaku Khan. Ibn Jarir has concluded the book here.
Introduction of the author of the book:
Imam Ibn Jarir al-Tabari was an eminent scholar of Islam, religious scholar, Qur’an commentator, historian of Islam, and specialist in Arabic literature. He was born in 838 AD in the present-day city of Amal in Iran. Ibn Jarir received his early education from the scholars of his city.
Later he moved to Baghdad, Iraq to study Quranic sciences, Hadith Sharif, and Islamic jurisprudence. There he studied Islamic sciences from senior scholars for many years. Imam Ibn Jarir wrote Tafsir Ibn Jarir on Tafsir of the Qur’an, which is considered an important literary work for Islamic literature.
Apart from this, Ibn Jarir al-Tabari has written a great book on the subject of the history of Islam under the name of Tarikh al-Rasul wal-Maluk. He was considered among the senior and expert teachers of Hadith, Tafsir Qur’an, and History.

Both these books are popular as reference books all over the world. These two are the oldest books written on important Islamic sciences. These two books on history and commentary have been translated into other languages.
Apart from Islamic countries, non-Muslim research scholars from European countries are also using Tafsir Ibn Jarir and Tarikh al-Rusal wal-Maluk for research. According to some scholars, Ibn Jarir’s book Tarikh al-Rasul wal-Muluk is not only a book of Islamic history, but it is a history of the world.
